Name: Jia Xu
Style Name: Wenhe
Age: 61 (*creak* Only 16 more years to go...)
Sex: Male
Height: 6'
Weight: 160 lbs.
Appearance: Tall and slender, Wenhe appraises the world through dark eyes that still possess a sharpness that hints at the keen mind that lay behind them. He sports a well-tended and groomed goatee and mustache, though at over sixty seasons, both they and his hair are beginning to show pronounced streaks of grey and silver.
He adorns himself in modest robes indicative of his status as a minister in the Han court and keeps a golden yellow cape to wear with the leather curiass he uses when he must present himself on the field of battle.
(Brief) History: Born in Wu Wei in Xi Liang providence, Wenhe was not immediately recognized as a potential minister and strategist, but was appointed to serve in Xian during the seizing of the Imperial court by Dong Zhuo and was stationed with his son-in-law, a man named Niu Fu.
When Dong Zhuo perished due to the machinations of Wang Yun, Lu Bu and others, Wenhe advised Li Jue, Guo Si and Zhang Ji to remain together and raise an army to retake Chang'An, which had become the "capital" under Dong Zhuo after he put Luo Yang to the torch. Under his guidance, Li Jue and the others remained in order, though eventually their constant infighting and the death of Zhang Ji would prompt him to leave, seeking another to advise. He found such a man in Zhang Xiu.
Zhang Xiu came to trust in Wenhe after the latter led him to a string of victories over Cao Mengde, who had seized the bulk of the Central Plains region at the time. Making effective use of small army tactics in conjunction with cooperation from Liu Biao, the prefect of Jing Bei, Zhang Xiu eventually recieved an envoy of Yuan Shao who sought his sword to use against Mengde in the coming battle at Guan Du. Zhang Xiu expressed interest, but Jia Xu promptly rejected the offer, explaining that Mengde was the better man to submit to.
During the battle of Guan Du, Mengde sought the advice of Wenhe, who told him to refrain from fighting conservatively and strike decisively. Mengde organized a force and attacked the main camp and supply base of Yuan Benchu, routing his army and sealing the fate of the Yuan family in the subsequent years.
After securing the North, Mengde turned his attention to the southlands where Liu Xuande and Sun Quan still remained potential threats to his power. Well aware of the tactical complications involved in battling Wu on the water, Wenhe advised Mengde to consolidate his hold over the Jing providence, which he had just conquered, instead of moving against Wu. His advice was ignored and Mengde suffered defeat at the battle of Chi Bi thanks to the combined might of Shu and Wu.
Unfazed, Wenhe seeks to appraise anew the situation of the land and determine how best to direct the future.
Starting Goods:
1000 Gold
1 Horse
Weapon: Wenhe is not the most able of combatants, but he still carries a sword in order to properly defend himself. It is a dao of simple design but superior craftsmenship, granted to him for his many years of faithful and competant service to the Imperial Court.
Armor: In the event that he must take to the field, Wenhe dons a suit of leather armor, unable to wear heavier due to his advanced age.
NPC(s):
Name: Yisui
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Nationality: Xiongnu
Appearance: Of moderate height, Yisui is slender, though years of training with the bow have given her considerable upper body strength and her posture and gait are that of a hunter, not simply a demsure woman, though she carries her self in such a manner when in situations where she is clearly out of her element. Her skin is an earthen brown, typical of her people, and she wears her coarse dark hair tied in either one large braid or multiple smaller as the mood strikes her.
When not wearing her armor, she dons traditional clothing: a caftan or robe made of fur, wool and felt worn to ankle length with a basic skirt sewn onto it and a small leather belt and larger sash used to tie it. She has since forgone a hat and simply keeps her hair tied back during most days.
In battle, she wears a leather jerkin and a silk shirt beneath it to offer further protection against arrows. As might be expected, her armor is fashioned in such a way to allow for maximum range of motion while on horseback, and Yisui revels in the opportunities she has to ride, something that becomes very apparent whenever one is able to witness it.
History: The daughter of a minor Xiongnu tribal leader, Yisui was to be used to further the ambitions of her father until a rival tribe assaulted their camp in the night, burning and killing all they could find. Only Yisui survived the attack, struggling to make her way to safety. At the age of fourteen, a lone woman on the steppes has little chance for survival, but she managed to make due, subsisting on wild roots and fish from the rivers as she sought out the camps of others, though none would accept an exile, an outcast.
Eventually she found her way to Bing providence, where Jia Wenhe was visiting members of the provincial courts. He recognized the girl as a foreigner but refused to allow the men to kill her. Instead, he tended her wounds and provided her with shelter while she recovered. When she was able to walk again, he offered to adopt her and has acted as her father for two years. In that time, he saw to it that she was provided an education and exposed to as much culture as possible.
For her part, Yisui is eager enough to repay her "father," but is not quite truly comfortable with the world she has been introduced to. In her element, riding, hunting and keeping in practice with her archery, Yisui is both energetic and enthusiastic, though whether or not she will eventually become so in all things has yet to be seen.
