Character Details
Name: Gongsun Chao
Title: The White Rose
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 145 lbs.
Appearance:
Young, with long hair tied in a ponytail, Chao's striking features make him stunningly handsome. The picture used illustrates his general features, though the armor he wears is completely white and silver in color. It bears the images of dragons, since his father was known as "The White Dragon of Ru Nan". His face is a slightly younger version of this picture:
Weapons: The Legacy - Spear similar to the one in the picture. It is said that the metal in the blade was forged from the remains of his father's noted "Holy Dragon Spear"
Shortbow - A standard issue shortbow
Personality: The dominating factor in Chao's personality is the charisma that defines him. Wherever this young man walks, he carries with him an heir of nobility and an heir of openness. He will talk to anyone, he will say anything, but he will always look better for doing so. His kind voice and endearing smile make it difficult for anyone to actually dislike him after their first impression.
Unfortunately, behind this extremely pleasing exterior is a slightly rash and inexperienced teenager with a bit of an ego. His real claim to fame is that he is his father's son, and little else. Like his father, he frequently gives inspiring speeches about the importance of virtue in one's life, and the power of the Heavens in deciding the course of action. He is unsure whether he himself believes, however, in his father's religious tyrades. Chao is proud to carry his father's name, proud to speak the way his father would, yet he does not have the same absolute virtue that his father possessed. What he has instead is a way with words, and a way with people.
History: Gongsun Chao (公孙超) was born in 191 A.D. to Gongsun Jieming and Li Shang. Gongsun Jieming was a very famous military commander and civil leader from the city of Ru Nan. He had been instrumental in leading volunteer forces from Ru Nan against the Yellow Turbans both at Ru Nan and Xia Pi. A well respected commander, and a virtuous man, Gongsun Jieming was named Magistrate of Ru Nan in 185 A.D., shortly after the death of Zhang Jue. Jieming had great respect for Liu Bei, once saying: "I may be the White Dragon of Ru Nan, but Liu Bei is the Dragon of China. Someday, we shall all follow his virtuous path." Jieming was also instrumental in leading men against Dong Zhuo's forces. In 200 A.D., Jieming died of unknown illness at the age of 39, his wife Li Shang dying of grief only a year later.
The son they left behind was raised mostly in the upper echelons of Han society, spending lots of time in Luoyang and Chang'an. When Chao's parents died, he was too young to be givien Magistrateship of Ru Nan, and so merely continued to be treated as a Han noble, carrying the name of his late father as far as he could take it. His charismatic demeanor made him many friends in the Han court, but unfortunately any child with many friends also had many enemies, and he was forced to be rescued by his long-time friend and mentor Gan Yiwu when an official attempted to have his assassinated. Gan was very similar to Chao's father in many ways, and Gan trained him in the art of governance and warfare, though Chao really didn't like either of them. In 208 A.D., Gan realized that Chao needed some real experience if he were to ever live up to his father's name, so he sent Chao to Liu Bei in Changsha, accompanied by Chao's bodyguard Zhang Ci and the son of his father's strategist, Zhou Xu.
