Lao Xun wasn't happy. Not one bit. No sooner had he joined Cao Cao's service than he found himself dispatched straight to the front lines, or rather, to a city with instructions to make it the front lines. That was far from Xun's plan. Sure, those closest to the action reaped the biggest rewards, but they also got themselves killed.
No, this wasn't according to plan at all.
Still, Xun considered, Cao Cao had only asked him to take Xin Ye, with Ma Chao's assistance of course. That left Lao Xun with, so far as he could see, three real options.
Number one was to grit his teeth, steel himself, and just command the troops, hoping like hell that nothing disasterous would happen. After all, this was only a rebel city, it shouldn't be too tough of a nut to crack. However, Xun really didn't like the sound of that, not unless he could order his troops around from a significant distance, anyway.
Option two was to hang back and let Ma Chao take the lead. He was obviously the warrior type (or, at least that was the impression Xun had got from what he'd heard), and so Xun was sure he'd be willing to charge on ahead for the glory, which in honesty was completely fine by Xun. Let others take the risks, he'd be rewarded regardless of whether or not it was him sauntering into the prefect's residence.
Yet... it would probably give the wrong impression to be so... unhelpful in his very first battle for Wei. Ma Chao would be sure to let Cao Cao know if Lao Xun didn't offer as much support as possible, and besides, dragging his feet could lead to the other officer getting himself into trouble. The blame for which could be laid at his feet.
The final option... well, there was always diplomacy right? It was worth a try, at least, to talk to the prefect and see if they could come to terms. In fact, wouldn't that be even more impressive than winning through force? A bloodless victory...
Well, even if negotiations broke down, it was worth attempting.
*
Xun's forces weren't long behind Ma Chao's in arriving outside of Xin Ye. He pitched his camp a little further back from the city than Ma Chao, and entrusted preparations to the various soldiers in charge of their individual units. When the time came, he would issue them their orders, but ... they didn't need babysitting.
In the meantime, Lao Xun, along with his assistant Zhou Liao, rode to meet up with Ma Chao. As the pair reached the general, Lao Xun called a greeting, and he wasted no time in getting to the point when the two of them finally arrived next to him.
"Ma Chao, nice to make your acquaintence. Listen, I know you're probably raring to get the battle started, but I'd like to attempt to talk ... whoever it is in charge here, down first," Xun shrugged. "I have no idea if it will work, but I believe it's better to at least try to end things amicably. If we can convince the city to surrender, then that's a lot of lives saved. Accompany me if you wish, I'm going to try and treat with them. Zhu Lang, get some kind of banner, let them know we're after terms."
Not long afterwards, one of Xun's riders was slowly advancing towards the city, carrying a flag of truce. Lao Xun looked on as he allowed his forces to get ready for battle. It was up to whoever was in charge in the city, now.

{I'll be the B-Mod for this, since everyone else is busy. ._. Also for the love of jebus please summarize your posts. :]}
The male shifted down upon a chair, looking toward the room of people that were dancing and enjoying them selves. Suddenly a guard ran into the room and ran toward the Lord of the land. The guard quickly said "Sire! Wei is outside our front gates!!!"
"Shit..Get the troops ready for battle. Make sure everything is ready. We will hold them off even if it cost's us our lives!" The guard quickly bowed and ran outside, getting together all the troops ready. The male stood upward and yelled toward the crowed of people. "Wei is at our front steps! Board up your houses, and get your children to a safe place!" Upon him saying the words everyone in the castle ran toward their houses.
The male shifted out of the capital room and walked upward on a wall, looking out toward the vast army that was at his door step. The archers and crossbowmen lined the wall completely. The Vet' archers in the back while the crossbowmen were in the front on their knees, each of their bows loaded and ready to fire at a single command from their lord.
Behind the main gate were the swordsmen and the vet' swordsmen. Ready to brace the gate for anyone who tried to open it with a battering ram. All along the wall the Heavy calvary and the Lance calvary patrolled the inner wall of the castle. In the middle of the area, where the capital was the pikemen and spearmen were. Ready to protect the lord once he returned to the capital building.
The male didn't say a word but observed the army, trying to see what their next move would be. To attack them head on, or to try to settle this peacefully.

The lone rider stayed where he was, well within sight of the city. He begun to slowly wave the flag in Xin Ye's direction. The lack of any response thusfar was putting him on edge, making him suspect that the first envoy from the city would be an arrow rather than a person.
Lao Xun fidgeted in his saddle impatiently. What was taking so long? The rider had to be in full view of the city. Surely there had to be either a rejection or somebody coming out to speak about terms? Dammit... this wasn't going as smoothly as he'd hoped.
"Hurry up!" Xun muttered under his breath. "Are those sentries blind or something?"

On top of the wall they saw a male riding a horse. The flag he had was a symbol that they wanted peace. In his mind though he knew that this would hardly end with such an outcome. Right hand shifted upward, summoning a diplomat named Zash. The male quickly came up the large wall and next to him.
"Take as many men as you feel the need to and see what terms they have. If it is alright then I will give you the right to give us to them." Zash simply nodded gently. Quickly he ran down the stairs toward a horse they had waiting for him.
Zash got on top and road out with ten heavy Cavalry. It took them a while to finally reach the general called Lao Xun. The male gently spoke to the General. "What do you want with us?" The ten cavalry made a half moon shape around him, them with their weapons already drawn and a blood thirsty look in their faces.

Chao listened to the second wei general speak about sending a peace unit in first in order to try and win this using there heads and not there blades, seeing the general ride out soon becoming swarmed by what looks like the defenses forces, with that Chao turns to his Heavy Cavalry and addresses them.
"Right listen up i dont know if his plan will work but im willing to go on faith, but stand ready if they attack him i want you to prepare for and assault are main task is take the castle, by force and for throws of you that do not Survive, you will forever remembered in the history books."

Lao Xun frowned at the sight of the group of cavalry accompanying the man he assumed was Xin Ye's nominated diplomat. That was quite the escort, and squinting, he could make out the fact that the mounted soldiers were rather heavily armed. Well, it could have been worse... all that armour would just mean it would take time for them to gather momentum for a charge. The closer they stopped to Xun's lines, the less effective they would be.
Nevertheless, out of caution, Lao Xun issued a quick order, and 50 of his repeating crossbowmen were soon at the front of the formation, standing behind Lao Xun in two ranks. For treachery, he was prepared, although he paid careful mind to ordering the troops to keep their weapons at their sides - not to bear, until it was absolutely necessary. Having crossbows pointed at you during negotiations wasn't exactly an ideal environment.
As the diplomat and his troops finally stopped in front of Xun, having more or less ignored the man who actually had the flag of truce, the Wei Minister gave them a long, hard look.
"I should think that's fairly obvious," Lao Xun drawled. "I'd rather like for you to surrender."
"I'm not an unreasonable man. I'll give you my word that none of the soldiers nor people of Xin Ye will be harmed. There's no need for any violence. We'd also allow your officials to remain instated for the time being, although I'll want to evaluate them at some point to ensure their competence," Lao Xun stretched, throwing his arms high into the air, and tilting his head to first one side, then the other. As he dropped his arms again, one hand fell quite pointedly onto the hilt of his sword.
"Before you say anything, consider this. You may have your independence right now, but standing on your own means only that you fall on your own. You know of the three kingdoms? Wu, Shu, and my own alligience, Wei? Chi Bi was only the beginning. It's only a matter of time before they clash again, and when great kingdoms battle, those standing on their own are either absorbed... or crushed.
"Think of the people who live within your city, and whether you want to bring war to each and every one of their doorsteps. I stand before you at the head of an army of twenty thousand, and that is but a small fraction of the might of Wei. Think, a moment, good sir, whether this will be worth the bloodshed. If you resist, then the streets of Xin Ye will be running red, and for what?" Xun sneered.
"For the notion of self rule, of independence. Let me ask you something. Does a self-contained government raise the dead? Does it tend to the wounds of a man defending his home in a fight that could have been avoided? Does it wipe away the tears of the children who have seen their fathers, their uncles, their brothers fight and die?
"It does not. The days of a self-ruling Xin Ye are numbered my friend, and it is your choice whether these days shall be peaceful, productive, and painless, or stained with the blood of innocents. Much like your hands will be. In the unlikely event you survive the latter event, I rather imagine it would be something you regret for the rest of your life.
"So choose, diplomat. Will you surrender, and be the man who made the wisest decision in Xin Ye's history, or will you resist, and become the monster that doomed you all? Choose."
Lao Xun stood in front of the diplomat and his soldiers, poised to act at a moment's notice. If the man were to refuse, the promise of bloodshed was to be fulfilled abruptly indeed...

"For a male so young, you speak great words. But you need to understand this, young Wei officer. You have fell at Chi Bi, to the hands of Sun Quan and Liu Bei. News has spread across the land. You speak of a blood bath in my city? Well, a blood bath would be brought upon your selves as well. Can you really afford to lose the troops you have stationed here? If Sun Quan were to attack here and I took out have of your military. Would be you able to stand up to him so quickly?"Zash's optics looked upward toward the face of the male. "The answer is no, you wouldn't be able to stand up to them. You should return home, I will not bow to the likes of a Wei Dog."The Heavy cavalry raised their shields upward, getting ready to block what arrows they were soon to launch. In their right hand they held a spear, they poised the spear above the shield. Getting ready to throw it at the young lord if he dare order his men to attack. "If this battle shall begin let it begin in the morning. Enough time to let the women and children of the area flee. They will go to a set location and when the battle if over they can return.I am sure, if you are the man you say you are. You will agree to these terms."

Lao Xun let out a short bark of a laugh, intended to mask his irritation, and meeting with only middling success. Xun wasn't good at preventing his emotions from showing, and when snubbed in such a way, that only became more true.
"It took two kingdoms combined to drive us back. Two kingdoms with the advantage of having soldiers suited to the train and the good fortune of the wind. In the central plains, you'll find Wu have precious few locations to exercise their naval prowess," half of a smile crossed Xun's face. "And I believe you should worry more about your own losses than those we might sustain."
Even as Xun spoke, he was calculating distances in his head. The enovy wasn't far from him. Perhaps fifteen metres, if that. His cavalrymen, in their half moon formation, were a little further back, purely because of the positions they had to assume to maintain that. Lao Xun's two ranks of crossbowmen were perhaps ten metres behind him. Assuming at the most forty metres from the crossbowmen to the cavalry... they were well within range.
What Lao Xun was more concerned about were the spears the mounted soldiers were hefting. Were they close enough to be able to hit him? Sure, the distance wasn't far, but the ji they were wielding were weapons ill-suited to throwing. They were the wrong shape, and weighted wrongly besides. Perhaps they would work as makeshift javelins, but they were far from an acceptable substitute.
Still, to be entirely safe, he would have to move back. Lao Xun had already taken a couple of steps towards his lines when the envoy offered his own terms. Xun's eyes narrowed, and he looked over his shoulder. His reply, with the distance growing, was almost a shout.
"And grant you an additional day to prepare? I think not. I told you blood would be coming to Xin Ye if you rejected my terms, and you've squandered that chance already. You brought this upon yourself, and now, you're all going to suffer the consequences. Now return to your city, diplomat. Let them know you've killed them all."
This, of course, was a distraction. Lao Xun had no intention of allowing the envoy or his troops to return. As he spoke, he made a motion towards his crossbowmen - something hidden to the envoy by Xun's own body. Even as Xun was finishing speaking, he tensed, then made a dive towards his own lines, falling short by some distance, but then making a frantic sideways roll towards his soldiers.
"Kill the cavalry! Keep the diplomat alive!" Zhou Liao yelled from behind the ranks of the crossbowmen even as they raised their repeating weapons. Earlier, he and Xun had discussed this, and although Liao's stomach turned at the thought of killing the diplomat, he valued his own neck highly enough to follow the orders to the letter.
Scant seconds after Xun's dive, fifty bolts were winging towards the envoy and his troops. The target wasn't the men - they were too heavily armoured. Rather the bolts were aimed at their mounts. In that much armour, on horses that size, a fall would likely be fatal.
Much depended on precisely how the Xin Ye natives had reacted to what had happened, and without being telepathic or prescient, their first clue would have been Xun's dive.
Edited for Summary:
Lao Xun turns down the envoy's offer, indicating that he should return to Xin Ye to tell them of the results of the meeting.
Xun, whilst speaking, signals to his men, then dives towards them, putting him on the ground. He proceeds to begin rolling in their direction as fast as he fricking well can.
The crossbowmen open fire, aiming for horses.

~Battle Losses~ All Horsemen Die Diplomat Dies
Reasons: Being Realistic, your men fire 50 bolts at a small band of horse men and a diplomat. One of them is bound to hit the diplomat and kill him.
"Let us go! Move out!!!" Yelled Zash toward his horsemen. All of them shifted around and started to ride away. After them getting about 25+ meters away from the crossbow men the swords were quickly heard of bolts launching.
Zash looked up at the air, the bolts coming straight for him and his horsemen. Before he was killed in the fest he watched three of his own men die first before getting stuck in the back with an arrow.
The lord of the land stood and watched the diplomat and the 10 horsemen die before the walls of his kingdom. "It's time for war! I want 500 Veteran bowmen to come with me now! The rest of your archers stand ready, listen to your officer in charge. If they approach the gates obliterate them!!!" The bowmen quickly lifted their bows and slung their quivers over their shoulder. Following the angry lord of the land.
The Lord quickly ran down the stairs from the wall to the front of the gate. One of the archers loading an arrow with a note for the pikemen and spearmen to brace the gate along with the swordsmen. Quickly the sound of the pikemen running toward the gate along with the spear men, they started to brace the door, putting large objects in front of it hoping that it could stop them. Behind the large objects were the pikemen who were bracing them selves for a cavalry charge. Next to each one of them a swordsmen. They shot out in a line straight across the braces of the gate. In total behind the gate were about 4,500 men getting ready to engage the enemy.
The lord shifted around as the commander of the Peasent Levy came to him. The male kneeled and wondered what his orders were. Head of the lord shifted toward the Peasent commandor and spoke in a mellow tone. "You will defend the capital building with the archers. Come let us be off." The archer set out two letters each of them containing plans for the lancer cavalry and the heavy cavalry. The lancer cavalry quickly shifted among the buildings to the right of the capital. The Heavy cavalry shifted among the buildings to the left of the capital. The lord of the land shifted inside of the capital with this 500 archers and his 1,350 peasents. "Peasents brace the gate, make sure no one comes in no matter what happens. Archers your with me, go to the armory room and take out as many arrows as you can hold. Including fire arrows, I will let this city burn before they can have it!"
The Archers followed his command and ran toward the armory room inside of the capital, picking up as many arrows and fire arrows as they could. The lord moved up and got some coal that were used for torchs, the ones that lit the halls of the capital. He brought them upward with a few of his helpers and placed them on the third floor, the top floor of his capital building. He set the torches on fire and his archers came with the weapondry and laid them out onto the ground. The lord sat quietly in his bed room. The archers on the balcony of the third floor, their bows drawn with sharp arrows on them.
