Character Details
Name: Lei Aiduo (雷爱朵)
Title: LOST in Re:birth
Age: Twenty
Sex: Female
Height: One sixty-six centimeters
Weight: 109 lbs
Appearance: Coming from the Red Miao minority in Hunan, Aiduo does show some obvious physical Miao traits- her porcelain skin, for one. However, she is by no means pretty; in fact, it is quite safe to call her plain. Her eyes are often enhanced by dark eye bags, the effect usually having them bulge out like a frog’s. Her nose, though straight, is slightly bent from a childhood accident, and the shape of her face leans more on the hard, sharp side with a distinct chin, instead of the soft curves that all girls would love to be born with- had her jawline been any sharper, it would be able to cut glass.
The fact that her natural appearance is, quite frankly, plain is not a secret to her- she knows how she looks like and since there is no certain business called plastic and cosmetic surgery in the world, she can’t change a thing. Instead, she has her own way of ‘fixing’ herself- she dresses to the nines. If her face doesn’t do anything, then her sense of style should. Being a woman, she can be seen almost always in a skirt or dress, though never anything too tight. By day she can be seen in Han robes, but at night, when nobody can take even one glimpse of her, she’ll change into her more comfortable, less shaped Miao attires. There are times, however, when she would dress as a male- this will be explained in the second next bit.
Weapons: Sword Crossbow
Personality:
I’m going to get to the point, and when I say the point, I really mean the sincere, honest point- Aiduo has three personalities. In other words, she has dissociative personality disorder. However, one must not mistake her for being schizophrenic- although DPD is a symptom of such a severe mental disorder, it does not mean it has to occur with it.
The original persona is arguably the best, most loveable, most copable personality. When it this particular stage, Aiduo is an optimist, a cheerful, hyper bundle of complete joy and positivity, never without a smile on her face and always eager to meet new, try new food and just get involved with whatever’s available. However, she can be quite the airhead at times, and it’ll take a while to calm her down in a serious situation.
Her second personality is not exactly the complete opposite, yet not the same either; she’s a man. Yes, although this isn’t an alter ego, it is obvious that there are some drastic changes in her mannerisms and even mindset- she walks, sits, talks, eats and basically does almost everything like a male would, even to the point of cross-dressing. This certain persona is optimistic as well, but it emits an obnoxiously self-loving aura, not to mention a bad temper and loads of alcoholism.
Finally, the third personality: this would be the one with the most drastic changes from the original one- thankfully, she’s a woman now, yet one who holds her tongue due to shyness and self-loathe, as well as demureness and indecisiveness. Here, Aiduo is weak; she is submissive and overly sensitive; she falls easily for her own brother (yes, apparently this persona includes incest) with a heart made of thin glass, a heart that always stops her from fighting back.
History:
Lei Aiduo is not Han; she was born in Hunan to the Red Miao clan. She an older brother, Lei Tangyu, a handsome, but oblivious, lady-killer of the clan. Their father was often sick, so their mother, Wulan Duoxian, had to work nearly twice as hard as she had before her marriage to him. Aiduo was young then; nobody expected her to slave away like they did, nobody asked her to. However, it would be a lie to say she did no contribution to the family- it was her own special way, yet it was a way everyone approved of; in simpler words, she made the household happy. Sometimes she would sing, sometimes she danced, sometimes she acted out stories.
It was one spring afternoon when a wealthy man ten years her senior came across her performing for her brothers. Aiduo was only thirteen then, but the man, Muma Qiang, did not care about that- she wasn’t the prettiest girl around, but she was fun and energetic, with stories that seemed to be woven from midnight; Qiang was smitten. And when Aiduo saw him, she fell hard as well. Soon they began to meet up, always beneath a certain apple tree, where she would entertain him, make him laugh and share apples with him. Then, surprisingly or not, the presents came. They started out small, such as flower petals pressed into her palm, but as the days passed, they grew and grew and grew, until when he was passing exquisite jewellery and clothes to her. Of course, Aiduo, knowing her place, refused them at first, but when he insisted on her keeping them, she gave in.
At sixteen and twenty-six, they were man and wife. It wasn’t long after when Aiduo was fecundated; she was carrying their child. Again, she was flooded with gifts and visitors, and even Qiang’s mother treated her unusually gently. When it was time for the delivery, however, she panicked and shook, trembled and bit down so hard on her lip that she could taste her own blood; she wasn’t ready. Still, she was taken quickly to the nearest bed, and after a while of agonizing waiting, she was told to push.
She was right all along- she wasn’t ready for such pain. Labour was long, much too long, and when the infant was in her arms, he clung to life as loosely as he did to her finger. Within three days the baby passed away. Aiduo’s entire world shattered- not only from the unexpected loss, but from its outcomes as well. Somehow, in one way or another, for some stupid reason, she was the one who was blamed for the child’s death; her mother in-law treated her ten times harsher, often slapping her when her son’s back was turned. The few maids they had kept their distance from her, as they feared she would bring bad luck upon them. She had to drop to her knees and beg to be let out to attend her parents’ burial. The torment continued for months, until on one not-so-special night, when the moon was fully hidden… she lost it. Her mind, her sanity, her goals- everything; she ate less and less, talked less and less, slept more and more. She ignored people, including her husband. She ignored the room in which she gave birth at. She ignored the frightened glances shot at her way.
And on that moonless night, at the age of eighteen, she left, taking the presents given to her by Qiang, before sneaking out in a robe given to her by her brother. There, she met Tangyu beneath that same apple tree, and together they fled the clan on Tangyu’s stallion, vowing never to return, no matter what happened; they would take on the lives of nomads, and until when they both deemed themselves ready to settle down and find a suitable spouse to raise a family with, they would remain as such.
