Upon the departure of Xin Fai, Mi Zhu smiles. Finally the time had come to really tighten the screws on Wu Ling. Mi Zhu returns to the officer meeting he had earlier organized following his completion of giving Xin Fai his orders in order to go out and scout the area.
Turning back to the officers within the tent he takes out a large map of Wu Ling. First he traces the path that their recently sent out scouts will take to ensure that enemies are not setting up in the surrounding area.
Finishing up with reviewing the previous actions Mi Zhu then traces a ring around the eastern and northern portions of the city, just out of range of any archers who may scale the walls of Wu Ling. At the same time he places markers representing the soldiers under his command to the west of the city and following the full circle of the scouts he traces the line representing them to the wouthern wall of the city. Turning to his officers he says:
Men I hope you understand my orders. Essentially we will right away begin first dig trenchs on the eastern and northern reaches of this hill, just outside the reach of any archers upon the walls. With this done we will place spears at the bottom of these trenchs to ensure that the enemies who fall into them perish if they fall within it. As we dig these trenchs we must erect the dirt into walls just on the other side of the trenchs.
Once these steps are complete we will head towards the western walls of the city, once again just outside of the range of Wu Ling archers. Hopefully once they see their dire situation the people of Wu Ling will give in without a fight, I truly wish to take this city with as little bloodshed as possible.
With these words the officers council of the Shu army disbands and half of them go off to begin the trench construction lead by Mi Zhu's own son Mi Lei, a man who's story will need to be told himself. Mi Zhu and the rest of the Shu army begin to settle in just out of bowshot of the Western gate, awaiting a resolution to the conflict.
